I have worked with parents and their children throughout my career as a social worker. I have taught parenting classes to groups as well as individual lessons. Even though I have this strong background in parenting, I almost missed the boat in meeting my own child’s needs. My son’s life would have been quite different if I had not listened to the wisdom of my husband.

Learning Magic Tricks Can Be Rewarding
We have three children. They are each very different from each other. Our oldest is a boy. He is a classic over achiever. He went through his high school years doing well academically as well as lettering in several sports. He went off to college on a full academic and sports scholarship. Our second child is a girl. She also did very well in school; however she needed to work harder at obtaining good grades. She played volleyball and was quite popular with her classmates. She decided to attend college and is studying to be a teacher. Our youngest child is a boy. He is the entertainer in the family. Ever since he could walk and talk he has been the jokester. Anything that he could do to irritate his brother and sister he would. When he was eight he became fascinated with magic. He wanted to learn magic tricks and so he spent most of his birthday money and allowances at the magic shop. When he was fourteen he found a site on the internet that listed camps where the participants were to learn magic tricks. He wanted to attend this camp. It was located three hundred miles from our home. I thought that this was a waste of money and our vacation time. My husband felt that it would be a good experience for him.
Magic Trick School Camp
That year we drove him to camp so he could learn magic tricks. During this camp our other children and my husband and I took in the sights in the area close to the camp. At the end of the week the campers were to put on a show to entertain their families. I had my doubts that the show would be very good. I thought it would take much longer than a week to learn magic tricks that would be fun to watch. I found out that I was wrong. The camp was quite advanced and the best campers were show cased in the magic show. Our son ended up being the headline act. The teachers told us that he was a natural and that he would have a future in performing if he continued to work at it.
Today our youngest son performs at one of the major shows in Las Vegas. He earns a great living and is in demand to bring his magic act across the country. I would never have thought that his desire to learn magic tricks would end up being his life’s work.
